The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is set to decongest its Abuja head office by relocating several departments to Lagos.
This decision, outlined in an internal memo circulated on Saturday, targets increased productivity and improved operational workflow for the affected departments.
Departments such as Banking Supervision, Other Financial Institutions Supervision, Consumer Protection Department, Payment System Management Department, and Financial Policy Regulations Department are among those slated for relocation.
The CBN’s initiative is designed to align the bank’s structure with its functions and objectives, while also complying with building safety standards and regulations.
The memo emphasizes the necessity of the move, citing concerns about the current head office’s overcapacity of 4,233 occupants, exceeding the optimal capacity of 2,700. Safety concerns, reduced efficiency, and potential compromises to the building’s structural integrity were highlighted as challenges resulting from overcrowding. The action plan aims to address these issues by redistributing 1,533 staff to other CBN facilities in Abuja, Lagos, and understaffed branches.
By optimizing the utilization of alternative premises, the CBN anticipates an improvement in safety, increased productivity, and a more even geographical spread of talent.
This strategic relocation aligns with the bank’s commitment to creating a conducive working environment while adhering to building regulations and safety standards.
