Chad has officially completed the withdrawal of all French troops from its territory, marking the end of France’s military presence in the Central African nation.

“The three bases of French forces in Chad have all been transferred to the Chadian National Army. The final one was handed over today,” Chadian Army spokesman Chanane Issakha Acheikh confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

The transition concluded with the handover of the Sergent Adji Kossei Base in N’Djamena, definitively closing the chapter of French military operations in Chad.

The withdrawal follows Chad’s announcement in November 2024 to terminate its security and defense cooperation agreement with France. French troops began their departure on December 10, and by December 31, President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno confirmed the complete withdrawal would be finalized by Friday.
