The coalition of opposition political parties in Gombe State has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their platform to contest the 2027 elections in the state.
This significant decision was announced during an “Expanded Caucus Meeting” held on Tuesday in Gombe, which brought together party officials and prominent members from various opposition parties.
Coalition’s Vision and Goals
Senator Abdullahi Idris Umar, a former Minister of Transportation and leader of the coalition in Gombe State, addressed the gathering. He emphasized that the alliance’s objective goes beyond merely unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Senator Umar, the coalition aims “to salvage the people of Gombe State, the nation, and its citizens from the current socio-economic woes inflicted by the ruling party.”
He called on the electorate to exercise wisdom in the upcoming elections, reminding them that they are the ultimate judges between the ruling party and the opposition.
Expansion and Inclusivity of ADC
In a bid to strengthen the party’s presence, Senator Umar announced plans for the ADC to begin registering members across all 114 wards in Gombe State. This strategy is designed to broaden the party’s membership base and increase its influence throughout the region.
He also highlighted the party’s openness to all individuals, regardless of their previous political affiliations or backgrounds, signaling an inclusive approach to building a formidable opposition.
Party Leadership Welcomes New Members
Auwal Abba Barde, the state Chairman of ADC, warmly welcomed all new entrants into the party. He assured them of a supportive environment and emphasized the critical need for a change of power at both the state and federal levels. Barde pointed to the current challenges confronting Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole as reasons for this urgent political shift.
Notable Attendees and Political Figures
The meeting attracted key political figures from across the political spectrum, including members from both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling APC. Among those present were PDP gubernatorial aspirants from the 2023 elections, AVM Adamu Fura (Rtd) and Dr. Babayo Ardo.
From the APC side, former Deputy Governor John Lazarus Yoriyo attended, along with representatives of Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy. The event also saw the presence of former commissioners and influential stakeholders from major political parties in the state.
This coalition’s adoption of the ADC marks a strategic and united front aimed at transforming the political landscape of Gombe State in the 2027 elections, promising a new chapter of political engagement and governance.
