Amidst circulating reports on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bureau De Change operators have refuted claims suggesting that the dollar is now trading at N1,000 in the parallel market.

The rumor gained traction on X with assertions of the dollar reaching N1,000 at Zone 4 in Abuja, particularly along the vicinity of Sheraton Hotel. According to the post, Abdulsalam BDC was purportedly offering the dollar at N900 for transactions exceeding $5,000.

However, Abubakar Abdusallam, also known as “Abdusallam BDC,” rebuffed these claims when contacted by our correspondent in Abuja. He clarified that the dollar is actually being sold at N1,300, not N1,000 or N900 as suggested.

The recent action by the Central Bank of Nigeria to provide $10,000 to each BDC operator at N1,251/$, with an instruction not to exceed N1,269/$, underscores the regulatory framework governing foreign exchange transactions.

Furthermore, a user on X, whose identity remains unverified, discredited the rumor, affirming that they were present at the alleged location (Sheraton Hotel Zone 4) and witnessed no such exchange taking place.

Efforts to obtain a statement from Aminu Gwadabe, the President of the Bureau De Change Association of Nigeria, were unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
