President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The announcement was made on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
In a reshuffle of key security positions, Tinubu appointed Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the NIA, while Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi was named as the new Director-General of the DSS, replacing Yusuf Magaji Bichi.
The statement highlighted Ambassador Mohammed’s extensive experience, having joined the NIA in 1995 and serving in various high-profile international roles, including as Nigeria’s head of mission to Libya. He has also served in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House, Abuja.
Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the newly appointed DSS Director-General, has had a distinguished career within the service, previously serving as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi states. Before his latest appointment, he held the position of Assistant Director-General of the DSS.
These changes come after the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu expressed confidence in the new security chiefs’ abilities to strengthen national intelligence efforts, urging them to enhance collaboration with sister agencies and align with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to address the country’s security challenges.
The President also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
