The Department of State Services (DSS) has questioned former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, regarding the recent attack on his convoy in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

Malami’s convoy was ambushed on September 1, 2025, by suspected political thugs shortly after he returned from a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Imam of Dr Bello Haliru Jumu’ah Mosque. The incident sparked political tension in the state, with rival supporters trading accusations over the assault.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Malami confirmed he had honoured the DSS invitation and was cooperating with investigators.

“I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services, DSS, to support investigation over the attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025,” he stated.

He alleged that opposition political actors in Kebbi were behind the petition that prompted his interrogation. Despite this, Malami commended the DSS for its professional handling of the matter.

“I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully,” he added.
