As the Edo State gubernatorial election draws near, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has vowed that voters will not allow election rigging to prevail.

Speaking at the grand finale rally for the LP governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, in Benin on Wednesday, Obi emphasized that the era of rigged elections in Nigeria is coming to an end. He warned that any attempt to manipulate the September 21 election would face serious repercussions.

“Election rigging is coming to an end in this country. This time around, anyone who rigs the election, we will rig him,” Obi declared.

He also highlighted the daily struggles faced by Nigerians, criticizing state governors who deflect their responsibilities onto the federal government. Obi reassured the crowd that Akpata, if elected, would not follow that trend.

Obi called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a free, fair, and credible election on Saturday. He urged Edo residents to turn out in large numbers to vote for Akpata and his running mate, Yusuf Kadiri.

Echoing Obi’s call, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s 2023 running mate, encouraged Labour Party supporters to use their strength in numbers to secure victory for their candidate.
