Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, described the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano as one of the most significant moments of his life.
El-Rufai made this remark during the Arewa Tech Fest held in Kano, where political leaders and technocrats gathered to discuss technological progress in Northern Nigeria.
The event drew high-profile attendees, including the Governors of Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara states. In his speech, El-Rufai congratulated the Emir, saying, “The reinstatement of His Highness is one of the most important events in my life, and I want to congratulate you once again.”
Meanwhile, a photo showing the reinstated Emir walking on a custom-made rug inscribed with his adopted name, “Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II,” has ignited controversy. Some Islamic clerics accused the Emir of violating religious traditions.
In response, Emir Sanusi defended his actions, emphasizing that his intentions were respectful and aligned with religious teachings. He cited that actions should be judged based on intent, clarifying that he meant no disrespect toward the Prophet Muhammad.
The debate intensified after a video featuring Muhammad Sharif, a Zaria-based Islamic scholar, surfaced, criticizing the Emir for not following the protocols established by Tijjaniyya order founders, Ahmadu Tijjani and Ibrahim Niasse.
