Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, has leveled serious allegations against Godwin Emefiele, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), suggesting numerous economic wrongdoings during Emefiele’s tenure at the apex bank.
Akpabio’s accusations include claims of illegal possession of firearms and unauthorized printing of naira notes, among other offenses, which he asserts have contributed to Nigeria’s current economic turmoil.
According to Akpabio, the policies and actions overseen by Emefiele during the previous administration have led to widespread hunger in Nigeria today.
Despite the challenges inherited from the past administration, Akpabio highlighted efforts by President Bola Tinubu’s government to restore stability and improve living conditions for Nigerians.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Rivers State, Akpabio urged patience from the populace, emphasizing that the current leadership is committed to investigating and rectifying the situation.
Acknowledging the magnitude of the task at hand, Akpabio stressed that the issues plaguing Nigeria for many years cannot be swiftly resolved within a short timeframe of six months.
Emefiele, who was removed from office by Tinubu, is currently facing trial in court on charges related to criminal breach of trust, forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit felony.
