Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has announced the end of the illegal sit-at-home orders across the Southeast, stating that the people of Enugu no longer take orders from non-state actors. The governor made this declaration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official visit to Enugu State on Saturday.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had been enforcing sit-at-home orders in Southeastern states in solidarity with their detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. However, Governor Mbah emphasized that his administration’s security efforts have successfully brought an end to these orders in Enugu.
Speaking on the security measures implemented, Mbah highlighted that his vision for the state includes guaranteed security, quality education, and accessible healthcare for all citizens. He outlined the steps taken to enhance public safety, including ending the illegal sit-at-home orders.
“We no longer observe sit-at-home in Enugu. Our people go to work every day of the week, and we no longer take orders from non-state actors,” Mbah stated.
The governor also commended President Tinubu for his courageous decisions to free up funds for development, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, the unification of foreign exchange, and various social interventions provided by the government.
“With those funds freed, we are now able to fully complete projects, including not just physical infrastructure but also social and digital infrastructure,” Mbah added.
