The State House in Nigeria has earmarked N9.5 billion in its 2024 Appropriations Bill for the construction of office buildings for Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants, as well as the procurement of tires for various vehicles.

The budget, named the “Budget of Renewed Hope” by President Bola Tinubu, includes allocations such as N2 billion for replacing SUVs, N4 billion for purchasing State House vehicles, N351 million for tires, and N3.5 billion for office complexes.

Amid public scrutiny over perceived frivolous spending by the political class, the budget also allocates N15.961 billion for domestic and international travel costs for President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and their aides.

Tinubu’s travel budget is set at N7.630 billion, with N6.992 billion for overseas travel and N638.535 million for domestic travel, while Shettima’s travel budget is proposed at N1.847 billion, including N1.229 billion for overseas trips and N618.399 million for domestic travel.

The budget is currently under review by the National Assembly.
