The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

In a statement released on September 29, 2025, by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, the government clarified that the decision does not diminish the importance of the national milestone.

According to the statement, all other events planned for the Independence Anniversary will go on as scheduled.

“The Federal Government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of nationhood with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.

The government expressed regret for any inconvenience the cancellation might cause and extended appreciation to Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests for their understanding and cooperation.

It also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the shared effort to build a greater nation.

NN News Media recalls that President Tinubu had stumbled while attempting to board a parade vehicle during the Democracy Day celebration on June 12, 2024, at the Eagle Square in Abuja an incident which observers suggest may have influenced the government’s decision to cancel this year’s parade.
