Former presidential hopeful Mohammed Hayatu Deen has announced that he is joining the African Democratic Congress ADC, pointing to deep worries about the way Nigeria is being run and the state of the economy.

In a statement released on April 12 2026, he said his decision comes from a strong desire to help build a safer and more prosperous country. He explained that many Nigerians share the same concern that serious national problems are being ignored while conditions continue to worsen.

Hayatu Deen recalled that he entered the political scene in 2022 as a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, describing that moment as full of promise and expectation. He said those early hopes have now faded, with many citizens feeling disappointed by how events have unfolded since then.

He made it clear that his move to the ADC is a deliberate step toward change, saying he believes the party offers a real platform to improve the country’s direction.

According to him, Nigerians across different regions are calling for a government that focuses on solving real problems and improving daily life. He said people want leadership that can ensure safety, lower the cost of living, and create opportunities for families to thrive.

He stressed the need for leadership that is steady, calm, and trustworthy, noting that many citizens are looking for a credible alternative that can handle insecurity, boost the economy, and provide jobs.

Hayatu Deen also raised alarm about the condition of Nigeria’s democracy. He warned that democratic space is shrinking, with voices being silenced and institutions facing increasing pressure. He added that the ability of opposition groups to operate freely and offer real choices is gradually being weakened.

He emphasized that democracy should give people genuine options and not limit their ability to choose leaders freely.

Drawing from his experience in both the private and public sectors, he said he plans to use his background to support economic growth and expand job opportunities across the country.

Looking ahead, he pledged to remain active in politics as the next general elections approach. He said he will campaign tirelessly as a member of the ADC, working to help the party win in 2027 and deliver the kind of future many Nigerians are hoping for.
