Tension has returned to Jos after a fresh late night attack left at least three people dead in the Nyango Gyel community of Jos South.
The incident happened barely 24 hours after Bola Tinubu visited the state airport to comfort victims of earlier violence.
Residents said the attackers stormed the area around 10:40 pm, firing gunshots in different directions and causing panic before escaping. The sudden assault has raised fresh concerns about safety in the region, especially so soon after assurances from the president.
During his visit, Tinubu had met with victims and officials, promising that such tragic events would not happen again. He admitted that no amount of money could undo the pain but assured people that stronger steps would be taken to prevent further attacks.
As part of new security plans, the president announced the deployment of over 5,000 CCTV cameras across Plateau State. The project will be supervised by Communications Minister Bosun Tijani, with the goal of helping security agencies quickly identify and stop criminals.
Community leaders have strongly condemned the latest killings. Rwang Tengwong of the Berom Youth Moulders Association described the situation as a dangerous cycle of violence that must be stopped. He urged security forces to act quickly and bring those responsible to justice, while also calling on residents to remain alert.
He also warned that rural communities in Jos South, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi are increasingly at risk and need stronger protection.
As of now, the police in Jos have not released an official statement on the attack, leaving residents anxious and demanding answers.
