Nigeria’s first gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Onyinyechi Mark, has been praised by both Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu for her extraordinary achievement.

Mark made history by lifting 61kg in the powerlifting competition, setting a new world record.

Governor Otti, in a heartfelt congratulatory message, commended Mark for making both Abia State and Nigeria proud. “Congratulations to Onyinyechi Mark on her remarkable achievement at the Paralympics in Paris! Winning Nigeria’s first gold medal and setting a new world record in the powerlifting category is truly impressive. Her determination and bravery have once again demonstrated that with conviction, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness. Thank you for making Abia and Nigeria proud. Your success is an inspiration to us all,” Otti said.

Deputy Speaker Kalu also shared his praise for Mark’s exceptional performance. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Onyinyechi Mark, a proud daughter of Abia State, for securing Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics. Her triumph in the women’s 61kg powerlifting competition and setting a new world record is a testament to her resilience and courage. Onyinyechi’s strength reflects the spirit and determination of Nigerian women. I wish her continued success and many more accomplishments in her future endeavors, as she continues to inspire us all,” Kalu wrote on X.
