At least nine farmers have been killed at their various farms in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who made the disclosure yesterday, while briefing journalists in Makurdi, blamed armed herders for the killings.

Ortom said the incident happened recently while he was away from the state on a trip outside the country.

“Nine people were killed in my own local government while I was away. It’s rainy season and these people who are supposed to be in their farms were killed there,” he said.

The governor expressed worry that the terrorists were hindering the farmers from engaging in their livelihood as he noted that they were also raping both male and female victims. He urged the federal government to live up to expectation as things were getting worse as far security of the country was concerned. (Daily Trust)
