The self-proclaimed Biafra Government in Exile, led by Simon Ekpa, has made several controversial announcements in the last years, alleging support from international entities and shared misleading content.
This time, he circulated a fake image of an armory purportedly from Togo’s “Attaque Terroriste à Kpendajah.”
On October 20, 2022, Ekpa, known for his inflammatory rhetoric and leadership of an armed movement in Nigeria’s Southeast region, claimed via his X (formerly Twitter) account that North Korea had agreed to supply the Biafra government with fighter jets, warships, and various weaponry.
In his post, Ekpa solicited financial contributions from his followers, stating, “Breaking News: North Korean President Kim Jong-un has agreed to sell us fighter jets, warships, and weapons. We need more support financially to complete the payment.”

In a tweet on July 3, 2022, Ekpa called for support, stating, “We need just 50 men and women to fund the Biafra movement with $10 a month for the next 5-6 months. Biafra will be restored by the end of 2023.” He presented this as part of his ongoing campaign to gather funds for the cause.
Continuing his fundraising efforts, Ekpa posted again on July 6, 2022, this time stating, “The 100 men needed to restore Biafra. I promised MNK that he has 50 men in me; now is the time to prove it. We need only 50 committed individuals to support this movement with $10,000 each month for the next 5-6 months. My thanks go out to those who have already stepped forward, and we look forward to welcoming the rest.”

Most recently, Ekpa tweeted on October 23, 2024, before quickly deleting the post, that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had agreed to loan $57.5 billion to the Biafra Government in Exile, in collaboration with World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to facilitate the declaration of Biafra on December 2.

In response, Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the WTO, issued a statement to dismiss Ekpa’s claim. She wrote, “I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again, I urge all those misusing my name to desist.”

Ekpa, who recently declared a “sit-at-home” protest last Monday and Tuesday in anticipation of launching warships, fighter jets, and an armory in the Southeast as part of his plan to restore Biafra on December 2, 2024, has once again shared misleading content. This time, he circulated a fake image of an armory purportedly from Togo’s “Attaque Terroriste à Kpendajah.”
He wrote in Igbo: Gwo gwon gwo! Obia nke mbu iju. Obia nke abu iju. Obia nke ato iju. There is no mercy on the terrorists going on we don’t know tribe
Ekpa, who leads an armed faction associated with unrest in Nigeria’s South-East region, announced the delay of Biafra restoration in a video shared on social media, stating that the struggle for Biafra may extend for 23 years if necessary.
