Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed that he was invited to the 28th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) but chose to participate virtually. Obaseki attributed his virtual attendance to the ongoing digital economy reforms aimed at advancing the development of the state.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Obaseki highlighted several accomplishments during his seven-year administration in Edo State. He mentioned the state’s transition to a paperless work environment, emphasizing that this shift has improved flexibility, efficiency, and productivity in the civil and public service of Edo.

Obaseki stated that despite being invited to attend COP28 in Dubai, he opted to participate virtually, citing Edo State’s significant achievements in addressing climate change.

The state is actively combating deforestation, erosion, and promoting environmental preservation.

He emphasized the ongoing investment in the digital economy, including the training of software engineering students and the deployment of 2000km of fiber optic cable infrastructure across all 18 local government areas.

This digital infrastructure has enabled Edo State to fully embrace a paperless work environment in its civil and public service.
