Nyesom Wike who now serves as Federal Capital Territory minister once tore into All Progressives Congress presidential hopefuls for promising to continue the work of Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the Buhari years from 2015 onward left nothing worth carrying forward. Insecurity a broken economy and rising hunger defined that period and Nigerians wanted none of it to last he argued.
The remarks came during a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party delegates in Bayelsa State as Wike sought the party ticket for the 2023 presidential race.
He asked the people of Bayelsa to regard him as one of their own. He reminded them he stayed loyal to former President Goodluck Jonathan when many others walked away.
He also said he never abandoned the PDP the way some politicians did when events turned against them. Wike called it most unfortunate that people were declaring for the APC and talking about continuing the good job of the president. That good job he said was people dying every day and the naira falling every day.
He felt ashamed the country had sunk to a level of empty praise where anyone would claim they wanted to keep Buhari work going. He asked what that good job actually was and listed hunger poverty insecurity and a falling economy. He could not believe anyone would stand in Nigeria today and promise to pick up exactly where Buhari left off. He prayed such a path would never continue.
Wike presented himself as the man who could fix the country problems. He boasted that bandits and other criminals would run at the sound of his name. Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri attended the session and described Wike as someone who understands the troubles of the region and the nation and has the skill to tackle them. Kelvin Ebiri the governor media aide released the account of the gathering.
The same footage surfaced again in September 2026 after Oseni Rufai posted the one minute clip. It drew thousands of likes thousands of shares and more than one hundred thousand views within hours. Users immediately contrasted the 2022 words with Wike present role. He now works inside the Tinubu government while still calling himself a PDP member.
Many said the old speech would serve as campaign material against him in 2027 because it came from his own mouth. Others called the shift shameless. The clip carries on screen text that tracks his lines about people joining the APC the shame of sycophancy and the claim that poverty and insecurity counted as good work. The return of the video shows how quickly past campaign talk can reappear when a politician current alliances look different from what he once condemned.
