The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized the new national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), confirming former Senate President, David Mark, as the party’s national chairman.
According to INEC’s official website, the updated list of national officers also includes former Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as national secretary, Mani Ibrahim Ahmad as national treasurer, and Akibu Dalhatu as national financial secretary.
This recognition comes after weeks of uncertainty. Just last month, INEC declined to acknowledge the leadership change, citing the absence of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) report and the non-submission of specimen signatures from Mark and Aregbesola. The Commission had also noted that the former ADC chairman, Ralph Nwosu, continued to correspond with it despite the party’s notice of new leadership.
However, in what appears to be a reversal of position, INEC updated its records on Wednesday, September 10, to reflect the new leadership.
Confirming the decision, Rotimi Lawrence Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, told Daily Sun via WhatsApp: “Yes, I can validate the change in the national officers of the ADC. The change has now been effected. It is effective today, Wednesday, September 10.”
With this validation, any lingering doubts over the status of the ADC’s leadership have been put to rest.
