The Kaduna State Police Command has officially summoned the immediate past governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, along with several senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over allegations ranging from criminal conspiracy to incitement and causing public unrest.
A police invitation letter, dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Uzainu Abdullahi, listed several individuals for questioning in connection with the case. Those summoned include:
- Mal. Nasir El-Rufai
- Bashir Sa’idu
- Jafaru Sani
- Ubaidullah Mohammed (aka 30)
- Nasiru Maikano
- Aminu Abita
- Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (aka Mikiya)
The letter stated that they are expected to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025, to respond to allegations stemming from a complaint received by the police.
When contacted, Jafaru Sani, the ADC Vice Chairman for the North-West, confirmed awareness of the summons, but claimed that most of those listed first learned about it via social media. He declined further comments.
This development follows a recent political clash between the Kaduna State Government and El-Rufai, triggered by violence at an ADC meeting in Kaduna. The state government accused El-Rufai of attempting to destabilise the state through “inflammatory statements” and provocative actions, which he has vehemently denied.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Shuaibu, the government warned that it would not allow the former governor to “ignite chaos” or return the state to “ethno-religious tension and insecurity.”
The statement further claimed that the August 16 by-election loss suffered by El-Rufai’s allies has prompted him to lash out by organizing unauthorized meetings, including one that ended in violence.
El-Rufai has pushed back, accusing the ruling party in the state of targeting opposition voices and attempting to suppress dissent through intimidation and false accusations.
