Lamidi Apapa, the then factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has advise Julius Abure, the suspended party chairman to accept defeat and move on. He emphasized that without the backing of the Obidients, Abure’s position is untenable.
Apapa recounted a harrowing experience at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), where he was reportedly mobbed by a crowd of Obidients who were supporting Julius Abure.
After being released from protective custody by security forces, Apapa spoke to reporters, describing how he went to assert his position as the Acting National Chairman of the party. He described a confrontation with Akin Osuntokun, Director-General of the Obi campaign organization, over a reserved chair.
Apapa recounted: “I approached him to ask about his authority to occupy the chair. Since I was in court that day, I asserted my right to that seat.” He added that the confrontation led to a violent altercation where he was attacked and his cap was removed. “I am certain that if the journalists had not been present, I might have been killed,” Apapa said.
He further accused Peter Obi of being aware and alleged that Obi’s campaign team had threatened him if he attended the court session. Apapa criticized Obi for not adhering to the court order that suspended Abure’s executive committee.
