The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, issued a stern warning to Nigerians, urging them to refrain from making reckless and provocative statements against President Bola Tinubu’s government, or face appropriate consequences.
The warning was conveyed through a statement released by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, on Friday.
Mr. Ogubike emphasized the need for those fostering disunity to halt their unwarranted verbal assaults, highlighting the potential repercussions of such remarks.
This warning comes amidst a wave of unchecked rhetoric emanating from various segments of society, deemed by Matawalle and his team as highly divisive and capable of fueling tensions that could escalate into violence.
Matawalle underscored President Tinubu’s relentless efforts towards ensuring a safer and more prosperous Nigeria. He pointed out the administration’s initiatives aimed at revamping the economy and safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.
Regarding security, Matawalle noted the President’s commitment to bolstering the Nigerian military’s capabilities and the mandate given to service chiefs to enhance the effectiveness of security services.
On the economic front, Matawalle emphasized Tinubu’s recognition of the link between insecurity and poverty, citing increased investment in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as evidence. He also mentioned the recent approval for a committee, comprising state governors and federal representatives, to explore the potential establishment of state police to combat crime.
While stressing the importance of unity, Matawalle emphasized that national progress hinges on collective dialogue and understanding to address differences. He reiterated the nation’s strength in diversity and urged Nigerians to prioritize peace, tolerance, and national cohesion.
Acknowledging the global economic challenges, Matawalle reassured the public of the President’s unwavering commitment to mitigating the burdens faced by Nigerians. He urged citizens to embody these values in their interactions, fostering a harmonious and prosperous Nigeria.
