Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, vehemently refutes the N585 million fraud allegations, labeling them as a calculated attempt to smear her reputation.
The controversy arose when a memo surfaced, revealing a fund transfer directive to a private account, sparking public criticism.
Addressing the viral memo, the ministry clarified that the designated recipient, Oniyelu Bridget, is the Project Accountant responsible for managing funds allocated to grants for Vulnerable Groups. Edu, in a statement posted on her Facebook page, declared the fraud allegations as baseless and insisted that they are orchestrated by certain elements seeking to sabotage the ministry’s anti-corruption initiatives and its mission to uplift the needy.
“I am writing to address recent news circulating about alleged fraud within the Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation. As the minister, I want to assure you that these claims are baseless and an attempt to undermine the efforts we are making to fight corruption and uplift those in need,” Edu stated in her Facebook post.
Despite encountering resistance in their work, Edu emphasized the ministry’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and eradicating corruption. She urged the public to dismiss the rumors surrounding her alleged involvement in financial impropriety and asserted her confidence in the power of truth prevailing.
“The challenges we face only strengthen our resolve to serve with integrity and dedication. I believe in the power of truth prevailing, and with God as my strength, I am confident that our collective efforts will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of the less privileged. Your trust and support are invaluable as we navigate through these unfounded allegations,” Edu concluded, maintaining her dedication to the mission despite the controversy.
