Peter Obi, one of the Presidential frontrunner in the African Democratic Congress, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s growing insecurity after the country was ranked among the most terrorised nations in the latest Global Terrorism Index.

Obi said the ranking reflects a serious failure in leadership. He explained that while many countries are reducing terrorism, Nigeria is seeing more deaths from violent attacks. According to him, this situation points to poor governance, wrong priorities, corruption, weak law enforcement, and a lack of respect for the rule of law.

He questioned the role of government, saying its main duty is to protect lives and property. He expressed concern that tragedies are becoming normal in Nigeria, even as other nations improve their security.

Obi also pointed to ongoing threats from groups like Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, as well as increasing cases of kidnapping and bandit attacks, especially in rural areas. He said many Nigerians now live in fear while those in power are not taking strong enough action.

He added that people are being killed every day and accused leaders of ignoring the suffering of citizens.

Obi called for urgent change, urging the government to move away from excuses and focus on real action that brings clear results in improving security. He stressed that Nigerians should not accept the current situation and warned that the country cannot continue on the same path.

He ended by saying that safety is a basic right of every citizen and must be treated as a top priority by anyone in leadership.
