Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that if he were to become the president of Nigeria, the country would no longer require foreign aid.

This bold statement was made during a town hall meeting in Canada on May 3, 2024.

Obi expressed his belief in Nigeria’s potential to be a prosperous nation. He shared his experiences from his recent visit to Brampton, a city in Canada known for its impressive growth and consistent AAA rating from Standard and Poor (S & P) over the past eight years.

He drew parallels between Brampton’s success, which is largely due to the effective utilization of human potential for sustainable growth, and what Nigeria could achieve. He emphasized that Nigeria has all the resources it needs to be a superpower.

In his words, “If I were the president, I would cease foreign aids. There would be no need for lobbying or begging for help. Nigeria is self-sufficient. I am ready to do the hard work. God has blessed Nigeria with everything it needs.”
