US Congressman Riley Moore has stated that many Nigerians no longer trust their government, pointing to repeated failures to respond to critical security warnings across the country.

Moore made the remarks on Thursday during a hearing of the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa, which is currently reviewing Nigeria’s potential redesignation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).

According to the congressman, the Nigerian government’s pattern of ignoring urgent distress calls has eroded public confidence. “The Nigerian people don’t trust their government. How can you trust a government that doesn’t show up when you ask it to?” he asked.

He emphasized that Nigeria and the United States must deepen cooperation to address the nation’s persistent security crises. Moore cited a recent case in Plateau State where a pastor reportedly alerted authorities to an imminent attack expected within 24 hours.

Instead of responding to the threat, Moore said, the government took no action and later issued a statement dismissing the warning as “fake news.”

Moore is expected to meet with senior Nigerian officials to discuss the country’s deteriorating security situation and the implications of the US decision to classify Nigeria as a CPC.
