The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning to Julius Abure, urging him to comply with the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated his tenure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

The NLC emphasized that continued disregard for the court’s decision constitutes a direct challenge to the rule of law.

In a statement signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero, the congress condemned Abure’s rejection of the April 4 Supreme Court verdict, which confirmed the expiration of his tenure and dissolved the authority of his National Working Committee.

Describing Abure’s ongoing claims to the chairmanship as “utter impunity” and a “reckless assault on constitutional order,” the NLC called on party members and Nigerian workers to remain vigilant.

The congress declared that it would not tolerate further defiance, warning of consequences for what it termed “antics of inconsequential characters like Abure.” It also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately remove Abure and his associates from official records in line with the court’s judgment.

Additionally, the NLC called on the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to appoint an interim leadership and organize a Special National Convention in accordance with the party’s constitution and the court-endorsed consent judgment.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the State Security Service, were also asked to ensure the enforcement of the court’s ruling.

“We call on all Nigerian workers, true Labour Party members, and defenders of democracy to prepare to peacefully reclaim all Labour Party offices across the country,” the statement concluded.
