The African Democratic Congress has strongly denied reports circulating on social media that suggest a change in its leadership.

The party described the claims as false and misleading, urging Nigerians to ignore them completely.

The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this clarification in a message shared on his X account on Sunday. He stated clearly that there has been no leadership change within the party and labeled the viral reports as fake news designed to misinform the public.

He also encouraged citizens to take action against such misinformation by reporting and flagging the content wherever they encounter it online.

The reaction came shortly after an online publication claimed that David Mark had stepped down as the party’s national chairman due to ongoing internal disputes. The report further alleged that former chairman Ralph Nwosu was set to take over leadership to guide the party toward its upcoming national convention and prepare it for future elections.

These claims emerged in the context of recent developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission. The commission had earlier removed the names of the party’s National Working Committee led by Mark from its official portal. This action followed a ruling by the Court of Appeal.

INEC explained that it would maintain the previous situation before the dispute began until a final decision is reached in an ongoing case at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The legal battle is part of a long standing leadership crisis within the party, with factions led by Nafiu Gombe and Mark both claiming control of the party’s structure.

According to INEC, a judgment delivered on March 12, 2026, directed all involved parties to avoid any actions that could influence the outcome of the case and to maintain the existing order until the matter is resolved.

Despite this, the faction led by Mark has rejected INEC’s move and gone as far as calling for the dissolution of the electoral body. The group has also insisted that preparations will continue for the party’s national convention scheduled to take place in Abuja on April 14.
