Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 2023 elections, presented a generous cheque of N75 million to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Specialist Hospital in Nkpor, Anambra, on Thursday.

Obi’s substantial contribution comprised US$50,000 raised personally for the hospital through his friend and renowned New York-based Paediatrician, Dr Philip Ozuah, along with his personal support of N15 million.

During the cheque presentation, Obi commended the hospital for its outstanding efforts in the areas of health, education, and poverty reduction. He expressed his commitment to engaging like-minded individuals to support critical sectors such as health and education, extending gratitude to Dr Ozuah for his positive intervention.

Highlighting the hospital’s dedication to treating individuals, including the less fortunate who struggle to pay their bills, Obi emphasized the importance of supporting institutions that are well-managed.

“I have been doing this for years and will continue to offer my support. I will always support institutions that are well managed,” Obi affirmed.

Rev. Mother Maureen Akabogu, the Superior General of the Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary Mother of Christ and proprietor of the Immaculate Heart Hospital, expressed profound gratitude to the donors. She acknowledged their contribution as overwhelming and emphasized the immense value of their support.

The Chief Executive Officer of Immaculate Heart Hospital, Maria-Nkiruka Okafor, stated that Obi and Ozuah’s substantial donation would significantly contribute to providing standard healthcare services to both affluent and underprivileged individuals accessing the hospital.

As a token of appreciation, prayers were extended for Mr Peter Obi and Dr Philip Ozuah, with hopes for divine blessings of good health, grace, and eternal rewards in heaven for their altruistic contributions to society.
