Peter Obi has called on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress to avoid internal legal disputes and focus on growing the party through cooperation and dialogue.
He made the appeal on Sunday in Abuja after formally joining the party alongside Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Obi stressed that constant court cases could weaken the party’s progress and distract from its goals. He encouraged members to settle differences through discussion instead of litigation, saying the priority should be building a strong political platform.
Both leaders were officially received at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, where the National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, presented them with membership cards in front of party stakeholders.
Before joining the NDC, Obi had announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress. Kwankwaso had earlier revealed that he was holding wide consultations with the NDC before making his move.
Speaking after the ceremony, Kwankwaso said their decision to join the party was based on shared ideas and common political beliefs. He explained that discussions with party leaders showed strong alignment in vision and direction.
He also called on Nigerians to take part in the political process by registering with the NDC before the membership deadline, emphasizing that wider participation is key to strengthening democracy and shaping the country’s future.
