Peter Obi, a leading member of the African Democratic Congress, said his recent visit to Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano was not about politics. Kwankwaso is a former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Obi explained that the visit was mainly to celebrate Sallah and to show respect to Kwankwaso. However, he also spoke about plans to improve Kano and restore its past economic strength.

The meeting took place on Sunday at Kwankwaso’s home on Miller Road in Kano. Several well known figures were present, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bayelsa Senator Seriake Dickson, activist Naajatu Mohammed, and others.

Speaking to a large crowd during the yearly Kwankwassiya Sallah festival, Obi said the visit was not political but about the celebration.

He told the crowd he came to celebrate Sallah with them and to greet Kwankwaso, whom he described as a leader. Obi added that there is a desire to rebuild Kano and bring back its industrial power.

He talked about reviving old industrial areas such as Bompai, Sharada 1, and Sharada 2, as well as bringing back major institutions like the Bank of the North. He stressed again that the day was for Sallah celebration, not politics.

Kwankwaso also spoke at the event and said he was happy to see many leaders in Kano enjoying the festive period together.

Even though Obi said the visit was not political, the meeting has sparked fresh talk about possible alliances and changes in Nigeria’s political scene ahead of the 2027 elections.
