Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi paid a warm visit to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his residence in Kano on Sunday March 22 2026.

The visit happened during the Eid el Fitr Sallah celebration hosted by Kwankwaso and his large Kwankwasiyya supporters.

Obi who is now with the African Democratic Congress made it very clear that the meeting had nothing to do with politics. He said he came simply to greet Kwankwaso and celebrate Sallah with him.

I am here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respects to our leader Obi told the excited crowd that gathered at Kwankwaso house on Miller Road.

The atmosphere was full of joy. Supporters chanted names like Obi Kwankwaso and Kwankwaso Obi. Other notable leaders also attended including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson.

Kwankwaso who leads the New Nigeria Peoples Party welcomed Obi warmly. He later shared photos of the event on his social media and wished all Nigerians peace and blessings during the festive period.

While speaking Obi talked about his hope to revive Kano. He said we want to change Kano we want to build a new Kano and bring back the old factories in Bompai Sharada and the glory of the Bank of the North.

The visit has caused a lot of talk because Obi and Kwankwaso are both big opposition figures. The Kano chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress said they were surprised by the meeting and wondered if it was linked to plans for the 2027 elections.

Even though both men said it was only a Sallah visit many people now see it as a possible sign of growing unity among opposition leaders ahead of 2027.Obi used the moment to call for peace and unity across Nigeria. He said all citizens should come together for the good of the country.

This friendly Sallah meeting has added fresh excitement to the political scene as different parties and leaders continue to position themselves for the next general elections.
