In a move that has generated significant debate, NNPP Senator representing Kano Central, Rufa’i Sani Hanga, has donated 5,000 pots and white cloths for the burial of people in his senatorial district.

This unconventional constituency project has drawn mixed reactions from the public.

Rather than investing in essential infrastructure like hospitals or healthcare facilities, the senator opted to distribute the burial items to his constituents. This decision has sparked a conversation around the effectiveness and priorities of constituency projects in Nigeria.

Reactions from the public have been varied. Sanusi Altine, a constituent, sarcastically commented that the senator’s donation is a “very good example of Nigerian politicians” and expressed the hope that the senator would be among the first to benefit from his own donation.

YaYa Abba, another constituent, acknowledged that the donation is “something” to consider, given that everyone will eventually need burial items. However, the sentiment was not universally positive, as some expressed concerns about the lack of transparency and evidence surrounding the distribution of the items.

Safety Cabal, for instance, called for more information and evidence to support the claims, stating that “any random person can attach pictures” and that the story lacks clarity.

On the other hand, Nnabuenyi Aguata and Bkaykabeer praised the senator’s initiative, describing it as an “awesome” and “well-deserved” project that will be remembered by the constituents.

The controversy surrounding this donation highlights the ongoing debate around the effectiveness and priorities of constituency projects in Nigeria. While some may view the senator’s actions as a practical response to the needs of his constituents, others argue that such initiatives fall short of addressing the more pressing developmental needs of the region.

As the public discourse continues, the incident serves as a reminder of the need for greater transparency, accountability, and a focus on impactful projects that truly address the pressing issues faced by Nigerian communities.
