Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi made a significant visit to Awkunanaw, Enugu State, for the official inauguration of the Araceli Aid Foundation Academy.
This school aims to provide quality education to underprivileged children in the community.
The Araceli Aid Foundation Academy is a project of the Araceli Aid Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by American philanthropist Anne Rossmeier, dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities and improving living conditions for the disadvantaged.
Obi, a staunch advocate for the right to education, expressed his gratitude for the invitation and his enthusiasm for witnessing private sector contributions towards educational advancement.
“I am thrilled to see individuals investing in education for societal progress,” he stated, pledging to collaborate with the foundation to sponsor some needy students at the academy.
He commended the Rossmeier family for their impactful contribution, noting that around 50% of the students benefit from full and partial scholarships. “This is a commendable step towards ensuring that children across the nation have access to a better life through education,” he remarked.
Following his visit to the academy, Obi attended the 70th anniversary celebration of Queen’s School Enugu, which has been dedicated to empowering girls through education for the past seven decades. He congratulated the institution on this remarkable milestone.
During his tour of the school, Obi learned about the pressing need for improved infrastructure and amenities. He urged the Old Girls Association to bolster their support for their alma mater, particularly in these areas.
“I am eager to partner with the Old Girls to rebuild some of the dilapidated structures,” he added, proposing a five-year project plan. “By the time we return for the 75th anniversary, we can celebrate significant improvements in the school’s infrastructure.”
Obi emphasized the importance of continued investment in education, stating that these initiatives will foster greater development and productivity for the nation. “A New Nigeria remains POssible!” he concluded.
