Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate in Nigeria, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Imo State following a series of tragic incidents that have recently struck the region.

In his statement, Obi expressed deep sorrow over a reported improvised explosive device (IED) explosion at Orlu International Market, which claimed several lives and left many injured. Just as the state was grappling with the aftermath of this devastating event, a fatal accident near the Njaba area claimed the lives of at least 20 people.

“These tragic events have left many families grieving, and I am truly saddened by the pain these losses have caused,” Obi stated. He urged the Imo State government to conduct a thorough investigation into the explosion at Orlu Market, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Obi extended his condolences to the families affected, as well as to the government and people of Imo State, adding, “May God grant the deceased eternal rest, provide swift recovery to the injured, and give all of us the strength to support each other during this challenging time.”
