Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, visited the College of Nursing Sciences at St Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital in Onitsha yesterday, where he made a generous donation of N10 million to support the college’s activities.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, has always been actively involved in the college’s establishment and has consistently supported it throughout the years. He expressed his delight in seeing the college’s growth over the years, becoming one of the best colleges of nursing in the nation.

In a post on his X page, Obi stated that the donation was part of his activities to mark the World Health Day, which comes up on Sunday, 7 April, and in keeping with his commitment to supporting the critical areas of human development.

Obi has always made a case for the training of more healthcare professionals both for the Nigerian health sector and for global export, especially now that there is an impending global shortage of nurses. He commended the College of Nursing for its contributions to this vision and expressed hope that his visit and financial support would aid the college’s growth, particularly in their contributions to the health sector.

The Labour Party presidential candidate also thanked the proprietor of the College, His Grace Most Rev Valerian Okeke, and the entire management and staff of the college for their visible achievements so far and their vision for further growth of the institution.

Obi encouraged the nursing students to take their academic and moral education seriously, emphasizing the tenets of this noble profession. He concluded by stating that each investment made in these critical areas of human development brings us closer to the New Nigeria, which is possible.
