Dr. Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to securing victory for Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Obi’s qualifications and previous accomplishments, Yunusa expressed confidence that Obi’s bid would succeed in 2027, following alleged electoral malpractices in the 2023 election that denied him victory.

During a good governance symposium held in Onitsha, Anambra State, Yunusa stressed that this time, the Obidient Movement would push hard for electoral reforms, secure adequate polling agents, and advocate for the selection of the INEC chairman by public consensus rather than presidential appointment, ensuring a more transparent election process.

Yunusa asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s perceived failures in addressing the needs of Nigeria’s northern, eastern, and western regions highlighted the demand for fresh leadership, positioning Obi as a strong contender.

The symposium’s keynote speaker, Professor Pat Utomi, emphasized that Nigeria’s prolonged leadership challenges underscored the necessity of the Obidient Movement as a viable path for achieving progressive governance. “This movement is about sacrifice, and together we can make Nigeria a new one,” Utomi said, calling for unity and resilience.

Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke, convener of the Peter Obi Support Network and Chair of the symposium’s planning committee, noted that the event aimed to recalibrate the Obidient Movement’s strategy in the South-East. The focus, he explained, was on empowering the movement for greater influence and sustainable development.

Labour Party governorship aspirants Chief Valentine Ozigbo, Chief John Nwosu, and Chief Ikenna Azomcine also addressed the gathering, voicing the need for transformative leadership in Anambra State.
