Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential candidate, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Justice Emmanuel Ogwuegbu, a former Supreme Court Justice celebrated nationwide for his unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and fairness.

In a heartfelt statement, Obi highlighted Justice Ogwuegbu’s illustrious career, which spanned decades, including 11 remarkable years at the Supreme Court. He lauded the late justice’s professional excellence and steadfast dedication to the rule of law, describing him as a beacon of integrity in challenging times for the judiciary.

“Justice Ogwuegbu’s legacy is especially significant at a time when justice often appears transactional rather than the refuge of the common man. He was a symbol of fairness for all, irrespective of status,” Obi remarked.

As the nation mourns this irreplaceable loss, Obi encouraged the judiciary to draw inspiration from Justice Ogwuegbu’s exemplary service. He called for a renewed commitment to upholding justice and fairness in honor of the late jurist’s enduring contributions.

Extending condolences on behalf of his family and the Obidient movement, Obi expressed solidarity with the Ogwuegbu family and the legal community. He prayed for strength for the bereaved and eternal peace for the departed justice.
