On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated annually on October 11th, Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, shared a message highlighting the importance of girls’ education and empowerment.
In his statement, Obi revealed that he kicked off the celebrations early with a visit to Holy Rosary Secondary School in Nsugbe on October 6th. During the visit, he pledged ₦120 million to support the educational and health initiatives of the Holy Rosary sisters, whose mission is centered on girl-child education. Out of this pledge, ₦20 million was specifically allocated to the school.
He also announced plans to visit other girls’ schools in the coming weeks, continuing his commitment to celebrating and advocating for girls’ education.
Obi emphasized the significance of investing in girls’ education, describing it as a crucial step toward societal progress. He remarked, “Educated girls grow into empowered women who contribute significantly to their communities, breaking cycles of poverty and inequality.”
Reflecting on this year’s theme, ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future,’ Obi called for urgent action to amplify girls’ voices and invest in solutions that support their leadership and empowerment. He concluded by encouraging everyone to contribute to building a world where every girl has the opportunity to fulfill her potential.
