Senator Diket Plang of the APC/Plateau asserted the urgent need for long-lasting remedies to the security challenges gripping Plateau state, emphasizing the inadequacy of temporary measures.
According to him, a sustainable solution is essential to save lives and quell the persistent bloodshed in the north-central state.
Proposing the establishment of military bases at identified flashpoints, Senator Diket aims to proactively ward off bandits and address security concerns at their roots. He disclosed that he has presented a motion at the national assembly, urging a shift from reactionary approaches to a comprehensive and enduring plan for peace in Plateau.
Highlighting specific areas like Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Mangu, Gindiri, and Bauchi, Senator Diket emphasized the importance of securing entry and exit points used by criminals. He believes that a strategic and thorough defense strategy will deter criminal activities, preventing both entry and escape.
Commending the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) for his accessibility and swift responses to criminal incidents, Senator Diket stressed the need for increased appropriation and cooperation for security personnel. He called on the public to actively support law enforcement in identifying and exposing criminals, even if they are within their own communities, to ensure lasting peace in the region.
