The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), has issued a strong warning as the Commission prepares for upcoming police promotion interviews, cautioning that the process must not be treated as a “do-or-die” affair.
In a statement released by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the Commission, DIG Argungu emphasized that any attempt to undermine the integrity of the process will attract severe disciplinary consequences.
The Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interviews are set to commence on Monday, May 19, 2025, and will be conducted simultaneously across all 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters in Nigeria. The exercise is intended for Inspectors aspiring to be promoted to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP 2).
DIG Argungu reiterated the PSC’s unwavering commitment to a fair and transparent selection process, stressing that promotions in the Nigeria Police Force will continue to be strictly merit-based and contingent on available vacancies.
“No officer should view this process as a do-or-die affair,” Argungu said, urging candidates to prepare adequately and present themselves professionally before the panel.
He further highlighted the Commission’s broader reform agenda aimed at fostering a modern police force anchored in professionalism, innovation, and intelligence-led policing.
According to the PSC Chairman, these values are essential to addressing today’s complex security challenges and ensuring that only capable and deserving officers advance within the ranks.
