Shoprite Mall, a well-known retail supermarket, has made the decision to cease operations at one of its Abuja branches.

The affected branch, located in Novare Central Mall in Wuse Zone 5, will close its doors on June 30, 2024.

The announcement was made through a circular signed by Dr. Folakemi Fadahunsi, the Chief Executive Officer of Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited.

The closure comes after a comprehensive assessment of the store’s financial situation and the prevailing business climate. Shoprite cited economic challenges as the primary reason for this strategic move. Vendors associated with the branch have been notified that their services will no longer be required.

In the circular, Shoprite expressed regret over the closure but emphasized that it is the best course of action for the organization’s long-term growth. Existing service contracts tied to the Novare Wuse Central Mall Store will also terminate.

The company plans to review its accounting records over the next 60 days to settle any outstanding balances. If vendors have specific ties to the affected store, they will be contacted promptly to discuss payment arrangements.

Shoprite’s decision reflects the broader trend of multinational companies adjusting their operations in Nigeria due to economic challenges.
