President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled plans for a 30-day National Youth Conference, aimed at addressing the challenges facing young Nigerians.
In his Independence Day speech on Tuesday, October 1, marking Nigeria’s 64th anniversary, Tinubu emphasized the need to engage the nation’s youth in shaping their future.
Tinubu explained that the conference would serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue, bringing together youth from across the country to collaboratively address pressing issues like education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice.
“As we confront today’s challenges, we are also mindful of the next generation, and we seek to harness their creative energy for a better future,” the President said during his second Independence Day address since assuming office in May 2023.
He stressed that the future belongs to the younger generation, and they must be actively involved in designing it: “We cannot build a future for them without making them its architects.”
The Nigerian leader added that the modalities for selecting delegates and organizing the conference would be developed in close consultation with youth representatives. He reassured that the government is committed to carefully considering and implementing the recommendations that emerge from the conference.
“This forum will ensure that our youth’s voices are central to the discussions on policies that affect their lives, creating a pathway for a brighter tomorrow,” Tinubu stated, underscoring his administration’s mission to build a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
