Another tragedy was averted in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State on Sunday morning after a trailer ladden with 40ft container rammed into a church during service.

The accident reportedly occurred at no 1 Green Street by terminus Hotel.

An eyewitness who spoke with NewsBand Newspaper said that the break of the trailer failed while descending the sloppy road of Terminus Hotel.

The driver being unable to control the articulated vehicle, dashed into the church but fortunately, the vehicles and tricycle packed in front of the new generation church prevented the truck from causing collateral damage.

No casualty was recorded during the unfortunate incident.

Though, this is coming after four civilians were killed last week Tuesday at Ogbor Hill axis of Aba, Abia State after a trailer conveying 40ft container rammed into a commercial bus and a tricycle before falling on a Sport Utility Vehicle.

Meanwhile, following the incident, governor Alex Otti immediately announced restriction on heavy-duty vehicles from 7am to 8pm in Aba and Umuahia.

However, speaking with NewsBand over the incident, the executive director of Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD), Comrade Nnanna Nwafor, reminded governor Alex Otti on the urgent need to enforce the restriction so as to ensure the safety of Aba residents.

He said, “We need to react to this and call for immediate enforcement of the restriction.

“The need to enforce the restriction of the truck from operating in the peak period has become very expedite and urgent to check the reckless accident experienced in Aba this season.”
