Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has warmly celebrated members of the Super Falcons team originating from Imo following their triumphant performance in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Hosting the players at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge, Uzodimma praised their grit and brilliance on the international stage. The honored athletes included renowned goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, experienced shot-stopper Tochukwu Oluehi, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Chinwe Ihezuo, midfielder Jennifer Echegini, and forward Anam Imo.

In a heartfelt message shared on his X account, the governor lauded the team’s unshakable composure and determination:

“The steeze and composure displayed by the Super Falcons were unmatched. Even in moments when the nation was filled with apprehension, they stood firm, never wavering in faith or focus.”

He commended their unity and resilience, describing the championship win as deeply inspiring:

“Their resilience and unity led to a well-deserved victory, bringing home the coveted trophy and filling every Nigerian heart with pride.”

Uzodimma expressed particular pride in the contributions of Imo State’s representatives, calling their performance a powerful testament to the potential of the region’s youth.

The Super Falcons’ final match against hosts Morocco saw Nigeria claw back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to clinch a thrilling 3-2 win securing the nation’s 10th WAFCON title.

Reflecting on the significance of the win, Governor Uzodimma added:

“This victory is not just a win on the pitch, it is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when commitment, discipline, and national pride come together.”

The celebration at the Governor’s Lodge marked a symbolic homecoming for the athletes and reinforced Imo’s proud contribution to Nigeria’s football legacy.
