Anugbum Onuoha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, confirmed that the results of the ongoing governorship election will be transmitted electronically to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) result viewing portal (IReV), unless network issues arise.

In an interview with Arise TV on Saturday, Onuoha detailed the measures INEC has implemented to ensure a transparent electoral process, including contingency plans to tackle any connectivity problems. He emphasized the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to authenticate voter identities and prevent malpractice.

“We have 4,519 polling units across the 18 local governments and have deployed 4,622 BVAS machines, along with 660 backups,” Onuoha stated. “Our trained operators are ready to verify voters and ensure a smooth voting process. After voting, results will be counted and uploaded to our IReV portal.”

On addressing concerns about his relationship with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) associated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Onuoha urged the public to focus on his qualifications rather than political affiliations. “My role at INEC is based on merit,” he insisted, countering any claims of bias and stressing his commitment to conducting a fair election.

“Unless there’s no network in that area, we will ensure results are transmitted efficiently,” he added.
