The Federal Government has launched manhunt for the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, former Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, and about 300 other inmates who escaped the prison break from Kuje Medium Custodial Centre in Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, had disclosed that at least 600 inmates escaped from the Custodial Centre following the bloody prison break Tuesday night.

Dr. Belgore made the disclosure while touring the facility to ascertain the level of damage and casualties in the facility which had a total of 994 inmates.

The Permanent Secretary also said that a Civil Defence personnel died in the gun battle between security agencies and the attackers.

Late Tuesday night, News Band reported that the Medium Prison came under heavy bombardments by unknown terrorists, throwing the entire area Council into confusion.

The first explosion, a high capacity bomb, went off around 10.25pm, followed by second and third blast and sporadic gunshots that left the residents scampering into safety.

Earlier in the morning, this medium also reported that some high profile inmates at the Correctional Centre in Abuja, including embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, former Governors Joshua Chibi Dariye and Jolly Nyame may have escaped after the Tuesday night’s attack.

The attack was said to have been resisted by military personnel and prison guards on duty.

Also, according to Major General Bashir Magashi, the Minister of Defence, about 600 inmates broke out of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje.

So far, about 300 inmates have been successfully retrieved from the bushes while between 50 to 60 were apprehended in the outskirts of the FCT by security operatives.

Presently, the Federal Government has launched manhunt for Abba Kyari, Dariye, Nyame and other escaped inmates who are still at large.
