The Department of State Security (DSS) has released the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, for over 133 days in their custody without charging him to court.

A viral video on social media shows Bawa has reunites with his family and friends amidst fanfare after four months in detention.

DSS is yet to press charges against him or arraign him in court.

His release came hours after the former EFCC boss sued the SSS for his continued detention without trial since June 14, 2023.

Mr Bawa filed a lawsuit at the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, praying for the court to declare his detention without trial illegal and to order his immediate release.
