The political turmoil in Rivers State intensified as the State House of Assembly Complex, located at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, was demolished during a session led by factional Speaker Edison Ehie and lawmakers loyal to the state governor.

The demolition, reportedly conducted by the state government, involved over 10 bulldozers and heavy-duty equipment, carried out under tight security.

While sources claim the move is in response to a need for repairs after an October 30, 2023 explosion, the situation adds a new layer to the ongoing power struggle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor turned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The factional Speaker stated that the governor would provide an alternative meeting place during the reconstruction.
